In Sweden Tomte or Tomtar (plural) is a main part of our Christmas celebrations. They are part of our Folklore and are mostly found in traditional tales, but also as far back as the Norse Mythology. We have a few different kind of Tomtar. The most common one is the one who lives on the farm and look after the family and the animals. It was important to treat your Tomte at Christmas with a special Christmas porridge. My dad has told me how my granddad swore he saw one when he was a young lad on their farm. And who knows... maybe he did!
